Building Destruction II


This destruction scene was done for an art test for Sledgehammer Games. I created the building and destruction setup using Houdini, and exported the scene to Maya. My focus was on showing different types of materials being destroyed, in this case, bricks, wood, glass, and ceramic (the roofing).

One of the bigger challenges was setting up the constraint network to give a satisfying amount of destruction without having the entire building collapse. The shortcut is to simply isolate some areas as being dynamic and others static, but then you end up sacrificing more organic destruction that can spread across the model.
