This coral generator is an application of solver-based growth simulation. In looking into organic growth methods, I found Entagma's guide on differential mesh growth. This method uses a solver to repeatedly relax points and smooth on a mesh, and allows for tuning of parameters to control the growth appearance. Originally I was looking into a fungi generator, but found an application for this method in generating coral reef-like shapes.
Each step, the solver transforms points on the mesh relative to itself with the given parameters, and based on input target geo.
